Wilbraham
This replacement dwelling on the south side of Manchester triples the area of accommodation to create a large minimal house set in a garden. The design is based on large brick volumes that step down toward neighbouring areas. The circulation is based around a large glazed slot through the centre of the building, creating a dramatic entrance at the centre.
The house uses robust semi-industrial finishes internally including polished concrete, exposed brick and stainless steel. Other areas are softened with wood detailing to doors, floors and window reveals. The design incorporates a full suite of active and passive energy measures. Roofs are designed to increase biodiversity. Landscaping includes areas of grasscrete to minimise the impermeable areas around the building a make for a visually larger garden area whilst being able to park.
